House tax bill puts bite on Monroe County, Bloomingon agencies, legislator warns

The Indiana House overwhelmingly passed a new property tax bill Tuesday that, at least for Monroe County schools, libraries and governments, could cut at least as deep as the already-approved tax caps.

If passed by the Indiana Senate, and signed into law by Gov. Mitch Daniels, the bill would strip millions of dollars in expected tax revenue growth from local agencies starting in 2011.

Fewer tax dollars for governments, of course, means more savings for taxpayers.
