The Indiana House dealt a death-blow today to Gary's hopes for a land-based casino. The House voted 57-42 to reject a proposal that would have allowed an inland casino in the Steel City.
State Rep. Charlie Brown, D-Gary, who had championed a move of Gary's lakefront casino to an inland site, said he was "extremely disappointed in the outcome." Brown said he hoped a House-Senate conference committee might restore the land-based option, but state Sen. Earline Rogers, D-Gary, said the likelihood that could happen is "slim to none."
"It's over for this year," Rogers said.
