The local law firm of Bose McKinney & Evans LLP on Friday slashed 11 support jobs, reducing its administrative and operational staff by about 8 percent.

No lawyers were affected by the cuts, according to the firm.

With 131 attorneys, Bose McKinney is the city's fifth-largest practice. It's among the scores of firms nationally that are taking steps to reduce expenses and stay competitive in the depressed economy.

"As has been a recent trend among many businesses, including law firms, the economic downturn has driven our firm to reduce and realign positions," managing partner Kendall Crook said.

Locally, Baker & Daniels LLP last month eliminated 22 positions - 12 in Indianapolis and 10 in Fort Wayne. A review of internal operations uncovered technological improvements, allowing the firm to run more efficiently with fewer employees, managing partner Tom Froehle said.
