Jackson County's unemployment rate rose from 5.3 percent in September to 5.5 percent in October, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.
According to that report, 1,220 county residents from a work force of 20,910 were without a job in October. In September, 1,167 people out of a work force of 21,177 were signed up for unemployment benefits.
Also in October, Indiana's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.4 percent. Indiana is below the national rate (6.5 percent) and is the lowest of all neighboring states.
