Mandatory furloughs for Lafayette's Journal & Courier staff in 1st quarter 2009

A mandatory furlough program for employees is the latest measure being taken by Gannett Co. as it continues to cope with a downturn in advertising and other economic problems.

Gannett publishes 85 daily newspapers, including the Journal & Courier.
