City administration will put Marion in the line for federal economic stimulus dollars, Mayor Wayne Seybold told the Marion City Council on Tuesday.

"We're looking at street paving and the additions of sidewalks and replacing sidewalks," Seybold said.

Seybold has been reading hundreds of pages of the plan and said while the city will likely submit other projects, sidewalks and streets can begin quickly.

He said the projects would create jobs, and while he doesn't necessarily agree with the stimulus package, he said it's important that the city has projects lined up for the federal dollars.

Seybold said the city has 30 days to submit projects, then a state or federal agency has 30 days to approve, and the funding for the projects could come within 180 days.

"It could be next year," Seybold said of when some projects could begin. "It just depends on how quickly it goes."

Seybold added that there is no money in the plan for sewage and storm water separation, but still last week he went to Washington, D.C., to ask lawmakers to put such a provision in.

Seybold said the city also may submit the Charles Mill Dam project for stimulus dollars.
