Highlights from employment news reported by The Journal Gazette in the third quarter of 2009:
1,670 jobs added, 175 of them temporary

The largest announcement of new jobs was General Motors Co.'s plan to add 700 workers to its Allen County assembly plant by April 2010.
The second-largest announcement of new jobs was Fleetwood RV Inc.'s plan to add 300 jobs to its Decatur operations by November.
The largest announced job cut was also by GM, which said that 175 employees took voluntary buyouts at its Allen County assembly plant and the Defiance, Ohio, foundry.

he health of the regional job market is on the mend after months of suffering more acutely than the rest of the country.
In the three months ended Sept. 30, employers in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio announced plans to add 1,080 more workers than they planned to cut, according to a quarterly analysis by The Journal Gazette. It's the third such analysis this year and the first to suggest a net gain of jobs in the 15-county region.
