Beginning Thursday April 4, The Peru Tribune, Wabash Plain Dealer and Huntington Herald-Press will merge into one regional publication entitled the Indiana Plain Dealer.

Like the three newspapers before it, the Indiana Plain Dealer will be a weekly publication, which will come out each Thursday. Current subscribers of the three constituent newspapers will have their subscriptions continue under the new newspaper, which will combine news from Miami, Wabash and Huntington counties.

While the format will change, each community will be equally represented. There will still be the same level of coverage for each community. Current community editors Alexander Bracken (Peru), David Nelson (Wabash) and Ilene Haluska (Huntington) will continue in their roles in their respective communities and will continue to provide the same coverage for readers in the respective communities.

There will be no fundamental change to the number of stories, or the quality of stories readers will receive each week. Paxton Media Group’s commitment to the community and the high journalism standards that readers expect will be unchanged. The combined print edition will include all of the news and sections readers have become accustomed to and the online edition will be timelier, with relevant stories posted each day.

The change is in part to keep moving forward with changes that are a result of the digital age as many readers are continuing to move to that medium but will also give those that love the feel and smell of a newspaper the opportunity to still hold the news in their hands.

The staff of the new Indiana Plain Dealer has a high degree of respect for the readers of our community and staff is committed to doing their best to ensure that the print and online materials you read each week provide readers with the news they have become accustomed to in our respective communities.

The new publication will not only feature each of its constituent communities but will also feature stories of regional significance, with more of a focus on stories with a broader reach for our communities.

The communities will also continue to be a part of our weekend online-only Indiana e-edition, which was launched in January, and which serves as the Saturday edition of our newspapers and includes material from The Times in Frankfort.

Advertising will now reach a bigger and broader audience as all circulation will remain untouched. Legal advertising will still be directed to Shelly Garrison at legals@ chronicle-tribune.com for all publications. Advertising will still be handled by Krissy Schroeder at Kschroeder@perutribune.com.

We are continuing our commitment to cover events in all three communities. This move will allow us to be viable for years to come and provide additional content to all our print subscribers.
