MUNCIE -- Anna Sammelson wasn't happy when her 6-year-old son's bus trip home took 95 minutes on the first day of school.

He hasn't taken a seat on the afternoon bus since.

"I really want him to ride the bus, but I cannot have him sitting on a bus for that long every day," said Sammelson, who now is picking up her son each afternoon.

And she's not alone. Parents of Muncie Community Schools students complained in the spring when the school board voted to cut busing for elementary students who live under a mile away from school, and they're still complaining now that the new policy is in place. There seems to be little interest in the fact Muncie schools will save about $200,000.
