Some residents planned their day around the Friday opening of the final section of the Hoosier Heartland Industrial Corridor.

Contractors were still laying sod in the median, grading the shoulders and paving some areas, and traffic was down to two lanes in some parts of the 35-mile stretch between Delphi and Logansport.

The official ribbon cutting will take place at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Logansport Ivy Tech Community College campus.

Diane Skillen of Peru in Miami County is excited about the road being open. Skillen said she was born and raised in Lafayette and makes the drive from Peru four or five times a month to see family, friends and Purdue University games.

“Besides the time being shorter, the safety is a great factor. I know there were a lot of accidents on that road, ,” Skillen said.
