The Tribune-Star staff reports

TERRE HAUTE - The Tribune-Star announced Wednesday it is reducing its workforce by seven full-time and eight part-time employees. All affected employees were notified as of midday Wednesday.

"We are in a difficult economy, and we are having to make tough decisions," said Publisher Jeremiah Turner. "We're optimistic about the future for the Tribune-Star and Terre Haute, but we need to be realistic about how we manage our business during this downturn."

The Tribune-Star is a seven-day-a-week newspaper with a paid circulation of 25,000 in a nine-county area of west-central Indiana and east-central Illinois. The newspaper operates two facilities, an office building on South Seventh Street in downtown Terre Haute, and a printing plant on Margaret Avenue on the city's southeast side.

An estimated 152 employees will remain at the company when the workforce reduction is complete.
