Unemployment hits 6.4% in Fort Wayne metropolitan area for March 2008

The unemployment rate for the Fort Wayne metropolitan area shot up to 6.4 percent in March, 1.5 percentage points higher than the 4.9 percent rate from March 2007, a state unemployment report showed Friday.

The Fort Wayne metro area includes Allen, Wells and Whitley counties.

But the Fort Wayne area is not alone in seeing high unemployment, according to the monthly report from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. March unemployment was higher compared to March 2007 in all 11 northeast Indiana counties and statewide.
