FORT BRANCH — South Gibson school trustees approved reductions in force on Monday which leave three teachers without jobs next year, as a safeguard by the school against fluctuations in enrollment.
South Gibson School Corp.’s school board member Tim Nurrenbern, said the cuts are not in response to state cuts to the district’s general fund, which lost $389,000.
Nurrenbern said the staffing issue arises every year that a few classes, especially at the elementary level, have borderline enrollments, and the schools are unsure how many classes they will need to provide in order to create the best experience and meet state deadlines, in case of an enrollment drop.
“We do it every year, in the past most [who have been laid off] have been rehired in the following year,” said Nurrenbern.
