79 on Monroe County schools teacher layoff list

Fairview Elementary, which is opening a new building adopting an Artful Learning curricular overlay this fall, has 11 teachers on the MCCSC reduction in force layoff list adopted Tuesday by the school board — over twice as many as any other elementary.

Batchelor, with nine names on the list, also has more than twice as many as its fellow middle schools.

There are 41 elementary school teachers on the list, 19 high school teachers, 16 middle school teachers, two from Hoosier Hills Career Center and one from Broadview Learning Center. There are 79 names on the layoff list, overall, but six are listed for licensing reasons and could be retained if the licensing requirements are met. Developments in coming weeks also might lead to the retention of others on the list.
