Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan announced creation of the Bloomington Entertainment and Arts District - BEAD - in 2006.
More than three years later, after its downtown geography was defined then redefined to be more inclusive, and two years after Miah Michaelsen effectively took over its leadership in the newly created position of assistant city economic development director for the arts, the district is seeking approval as one of Indiana's first state-designated cultural districts.
The Indiana Arts Commission panel that will score applicants - there are seven, including Bloomington - meets Oct. 1 in Indianapolis. Deadline for applying was in August.
