East Allen County Schools board votes to lay off 31 teachers

The East Allen County Schools board voted unanimously Tuesday to lay off 31 teachers, most of whom are new to teaching.

Greg Geise, president of the East Allen Educators Association, said half of the teachers are at the elementary level. All but two of the teachers have fewer than 2 1/2 years of experience, he said. Superintendent Karyle Green said she hopes to hire some of the teachers back by the beginning of the school year.
