OAKLAND CITY — East Gibson School Corp. trustees voted Monday night not to renew the contracts of five teachers due to budget considerations.
Fleck reiterated that budget cuts were the reason for the contract cuts, and reminded the board of the 4.577 percent cuts that the governor had announced this year.
“This isn’t easy on anybody,” said Fleck. He said that the board took no pleasure in the non-renewals.
Fleck also detailed other measures the board has taken to save funds, including only holding summer school for kindergarten through second grade, and denying stipends to summer camp programs.
Additionally, the school board voted to assess a $2.50 per semester physical education fee for junior high and high school students.
