SOUTH BEND -- Graduation weekend at the University of Notre Dame means more than cap and gowns on campus. It is also one of the busiest weekends for downtown businesses and restaurants.
The ongoing power outage affecting much of downtown South Bend could have a large impact on those businesses.
"Closing is not an option," Kurt Janowsky, owner of Cafe Navarre, 101 N. Michigan St., said.
Janowsky said with over 1,400 reservations in the books for today, Saturday and Sunday, his restaurant will find a way to be open by dinnertime. This morning workers were busy taking care of the food on hand and working to get generators working.
Nearby, the Subway at 113 W. Washington St. is closed until further notice, according to manger Robin Harroff. Employees were taking food from the restaurant to other Subways in the area.
