INDIANAPOLIS — State lawmakers are likely to wrap up their 2016 session a few days prior to the mandatory March 14 adjournment date.
House and Senate leaders have indicated the Legislature could adjourn "sine die," or "for the year," on March 9 — or even sooner.
The potential early end is due to the March 9-13 Big 10 Men's Basketball Tournament taking up all the hotel rooms in Indianapolis, leaving representatives and senators no places to stay.
As a result, lawmakers may give up at least one of their usual Fridays off, and be in session Feb. 26 or March 4, to complete their work.
The General Assembly last year adjourned one minute prior to the statutory deadline.
