ELKHART — The Schwan’s Home Delivery legacy may be coming to an end.

Cygnus Home Services LLC, doing business as Yelloh, announced on Tuesday an additional 27 layoffs from their Elkhart and Muncie locations scheduled for July 27.

The company, formerly Schwan’s Home Delivery, has been on a steady decline for several years, in the last 12 months announcing permanent closures in several states including Pennsylvania and California.

In 2022, the home delivery service rebranded as Yelloh, after selling nearly 80% of the company’s stock to CJ CheilJedang, a South Korean food culture company in 2019. Until that point, the company had been under Schwan family control for its roughly 70 years in business. The family continued to operate as a subsidiary of the foreign food company, controlling 100% of the Schwan’s Home Delivery, culminating in the rebranding of the delivery service in March 2022 as Yelloh.

In October 2023, the company announced it would be cutting some 750 jobs nationwide and closing 90 delivery centers, citing “economic headwinds, rising business costs, and the post-pandemic world,” the company said in a press release that month.

Yelloh will retain facilities in 16 U.S. states including parts of Indiana.

A statement from Yelloh reads: “At Yelloh, our mission is to deliver extraordinary food and experiences to our customers, and we love serving communities with our iconic yellow trucks. That’s why we are saddened to share that we will be closing our operations in these Indiana locations by the end of July 2024. Despite continued efforts to turn our business around locally, we simply do not see a profitable path forward for these depots. We are committed to taking care of our impacted team members and will work to support our customers in their transition to our online or appbased ordering solutions.”

Nine Indiana operating locations remaining, in Danville, Decatur, Evansville, Monticello, North Vernon, Terre Haute, Valparaiso, Wabash, and Washington, and Yelloh direct ship options remain available across the country.
