There were 1,268 single-family building permits pulled in Hancock County in 2025, up from the 2024 total of 997, according to the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis.
BAGI reports that the entire central Indiana area reported a modest increase of 1% from 2024 to 2025. However, the Hancock County rise represents a nearly 28% increase.
While market conditions varied across the region, overall permit totals point to a housing market that remains resilient, according to the press release. Population growth, declining interest rates, relative affordability compared to larger metropolitan areas, and sustained interest in homeownership continue to support new home construction in Central Indiana, even as national markets experience more pronounced slowdowns.
