ELWOOD — The last of 125 turbines at the Wildcat wind farm is up and running.

Crews broke ground earlier this year on phase one of the farm, a 200-megawatt spanning 8,500 acres in Madison and Tipton counties. They were racing against the clock to complete the 125 turbines before the end of the year, when a wind energy tax incentive could expire.

The last turbine was finished Dec. 8, said Matt Tulis of E.ON Climate & Renewables.

The turbines will produce enough energy to power 60,000 average American homes for a year, said Andy Melka, Wildcat project developer. One hundred megawatts per year will be sold to Indiana Michigan Power for distribution.
