National Guard to help these 10 East Central Indiana nursing homes first, but eventually it will go to all of state's long-term facilities in November

Gov. Eric Holcomb announced Oct. 29 that he would be deploying the National Guard to nursing homes to help "exhausted" staff care for residents.

Staff, residents and families are "simply, like so many, overwhelmed by the scale and pace that this virus can take on," he said at the time. "There is fatigue there. You're seeing that."

The National Guard is being sent to all 534 of Indiana's long-term care facilities in November, but will arrive in phases — on Nov. 2, Nov. 9 and Nov. 16 — based on the need and outbreak status of the facility.

Facilities in Phase 1 and Phase 2 will be assigned three guard members each, and those in Phase 3 will be assigned two guard members each.
