JASPER — The Indiana State Department of Health reported Wednesday 49 new cases of COVID-19 in Dubois County.
The state now considers the county as "Code Red," due to the county's seven-day positivity rate of 15.86%.
According to the Dubois County Health Department, the "red" designation "indicates very high positivity and community spread within the county."
A total of 1,723 cases have been recorded in the county, and 28 deaths related to the virus. A total of 10,380 Dubois County residents have been tested.
The county health departments encourages the public to remain vigilant. "Be vigilant when you are around other individuals by following the public health guidelines we currently have in place," a news release states. "These are physical distancing, wearing a mask, avoid crowds, stay home if you are sick or have been tested, and practice good hygiene."
The department also encourages ventilation in indoor spaces. "You should keep air moving with fans, cracking windows and opening doors when possible," the department advises.
It also encourages the public to get the flu vaccine now and the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available.
The county health department is no longer providing daily COVID-19 updates, but all the information can be found on the ISDH COVID-19 Dashboard at https://www.coronavirus.in.gov/2393.htm, which is updated every day at noon.
The Indiana State Department of Health reported Wednesday 3,756 new cases, bringing the statewide total to 191,764 cases. A total of 4,224 Hoosiers have died from the virus. Another 240 probable deaths have been reported.
