LAFAYETTE — Rainbow Trout Solar unveiled a revised plan that shrinks its footprint for solar panels by about 22% in its industrial-scale solar farm proposed for northwestern Tippecanoe County.

The project has met with opposition from residents in the affected area roughly north of Indiana 26 in the Jackson Highway area and south of Montmorenci.

“It decreased spacing between the rows," said Molly Hale, communication director for Geenex Power. "The number of solar arrays remains the same and the energy production remains the same at 120 megawatts.”

The changes add larger setbacks from residents and roads in the area, Hale said. The complete details can be seen at rainbowtroutsolar.com.

Geenex Power and RWE filed plans with the Area Plan Commission in May that would install solar panels on roughly 900 acres of the 1700 acres it has leased for the project. The industrial-scale solar farm is expected to be operational for 40 years, according to public presentations.
