The new Hopewell neighborhood under development near downtown Bloomington will contain a public art installation and the city has revealed the four proposals under consideration.

The new public park, called Hopewell Commons, will be between West First and West Second streets next to the B-Line Trail. The park is expected to open later this year and will feature 126 trees, a log scramble play structure, artificial lawn area, seating and a covered pavilion.

Comments from the public about the art proposals are being accepted through July 5 using a form at https://shorturl.at/LxBna. The budget of $100,000 comes from the city's 1% for the Arts ordinance that requires specific city capital projects allocate 1% of the city's costs for public art.

This proposal is for a carved limestone arch held up by two gateposts. The gateposts would have images of women working, handprints and hand-carved signage. The artists propose inviting community members to have their hands carved into the stone and to observe the carving as it is happening.
