WEST LAFAYETTE – At least 12 Purdue University students are facing disciplinary action from the university for violating the “Protect Purdue Pledge” over the weekend following warm weather and large gatherings.

There were several off-campus parties over the weekend, with one inside of an apartment in a high rise building that had an estimated 125 people inside a single, 750-square-foot unit, according to Purdue.

Purdue’s Office of the Dean of Students, property management and county health officials are looking into the off-campus parties, which the university said came about from “COVID fatigue” and the warming spring weather.

It was unseasonably warm for late February, with Feb. 27 and Feb. 28 reporting highs of 57 degrees and 64 degrees, respectively. Purdue called it an “abnormally active” weekend.

At least 12 students are facing disciplinary action, which can range from being placed on probation to expulsion as Purdue is continuing its investigation, and three of the 12 students have previously seen disciplinary action.
