Nucor Steel is just following their business plan.
Nucor General Manager Ron Dickerson said that they are currently in the process of talking to Heidtman Steel about purchasing some machinery and property.
"I spent two hours talking to people (at Heidtman Steel) Wednesday," he said.
Heidtman Steel announced in late April that they would be closing the plant June 30.
"We had some internal meetings to look at our five year plan," Dickerson said. "Those (Heidtman) buildings can service us and our plants. It all happened pretty quickly. A lot is still up in the air.
"As we keep producing steel here we are always looking for ways to expand," he said. "It all started coming together."
Dickerson said that one of the purposes of purchasing the building from Heidtman is simply for storage. He said Nucor would "store coils over there."
"It is so close," Dickerson said. "We already have rail access to it. That's a big plus."
He said that with the acquisition, there is potential of adding new jobs.
