TS Tech Indiana will hire about 160 people in the next weeks as its adds a second shift to its factory in New Castle.
To fill the positions, the automobile parts supplier will hold a job fair from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the New Castle-Henry County Public Library.
On Tuesday, Dale West, TS Tech Indiana plant manager, said the Japanese company has planned to start a second shift in New Castle since October 2008. But the economic recession and the tsunami that devastated Japan earlier this year delayed the move.
"It's a long time coming," West said.
TS Tech Indiana's announcement of about 160 new jobs here comes just weeks after its customer, the Honda plant in Greensburg, announced that it would add a second shift and 1,000 jobs by the end of the year.
The TS Tech plant here currently makes seats for Honda Civics, which are produced in Greensburg. However, as part of the jobs announcement this week, West said the TS Tech plant here will soon also produce seats for the Honda Acura.
Currently, TS Tech Indiana employs about 186 people in New Castle. After the new hires are made, the factory will employee about 340 people, making it one of the county's top 10 employers.
Of the new hires at the plant, about 15 positions will be in middle management, about 45 positions will be in entry-level management and about 100 positions will be for regular associates.
Some of the new employees at the plant could be hired by late July, West said. The second shift will start in the fall, he added.
According to an advertisement from TS Tech, job seekers will have to fill out a questionnaire when they visit the job fair on Monday. Eligible candidates will eventually be scheduled for a pre-hiring orientation, the advertisement said.
To qualify, applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and no history of felony convictions.
