The Columbus job market has deteriorated from last year and is faring worse than the state average, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.
About 30 percent of interviewed Columbus employers planned to increase their work force in the third quarter, down from 40 percent a year ago.
And 23 percent projected a staffing reduction, compared to only 7 percent a year ago. Forty-seven percent expected no changes.
"Columbus employers have much weaker hiring intentions," said Chris Berry, spokeswoman for Manpower in Columbus.
Statewide, 26 percent of respondents planned to hire, but only 6 percent expected staffing reductions.
Indiana's eastern area fared best in the survey, with 40 percent of employers projecting hirings, and only 3 percent expecting work force reductions.
Nationwide, 29 percent of employers planned to hire in the third quarter, and 7 percent expected staff reductions.
Manpower, an employment services company with 4,400 offices in 73 countries and territories, surveyed 14,000 U.S. employers.
