ELKHART -- Skyline Corp. reported a net loss for the second quarter of its fiscal 2008 year.

For the three months that ended Nov. 30, 2007, the company lost $1.89 million, compared with net earnings of $625,000 reported for the second quarter of fiscal 2007. For the first six months of fiscal 2008, Skyline posted a net loss of $1.77 million, compared with net earnings of $2.52 million for the same period the previous year.

Sales dropped to $77.2 million for the quarter from $94.8 million and to $173.6 million for the first half of the year from $210.6 million.

For Skyline's manufactured housing group, sales slumped to $130.7 million in the first half of fiscal 2008 from $157.1 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year. In the recreational vehicle group, sales are off more than $10 million for the opening six months of the fiscal year 2008, falling to $42.9 million from $53.5 million.
