— Even though its admissions and gaming revenue dropped slightly last month, Tropicana Evansville still managed to outperform its main casino competitors.

In March, Tropicana saw 103,020 visitors to its riverboat casino, and it earned $10.9 million in gaming revenue from those visitors. These numbers represented a 2 percent drop in visitation and a 1 percent drop in gaming revenue as compared to March 2013.

These numbers come from the Indiana Gaming Commission’s March revenue report, which was released last week. The report details how many people visited each of Indiana’s casinos and how much they wagered; how much each casino earned from gaming; and how much the facilities paid in customer winnings and in taxes.

Tropicana’s main casino competitors are the French Lick Casino and the Harrah’s casino in Metropolis, Ill.

French Lick saw 71,612 visitors in March, a drop of 12 percent from the previous year. Its monthly gaming revenue dropped 19 percent, to $6.4 million.

The Illinois Gaming Board has also released its March report. According to that report, Harrah’s Metropolis had 54,957 visitors last month, which represents a 16 percent decline from the previous year. Its gaming revenue dropped 7 percent, to $7.7 million.

Tropicana also outperformed Indiana’s casinos in general last month.

The state’s casinos drew a combined 1.7 million visitors in March, and the facilities earned a combined $29.0 million from table games and electronic gaming from those visitors. Both of these numbers represented a 12 percent decline as compared to March 2013.

Tropicana Evansville did not immediately respond to a Courier & Press query on Thursday seeking comments on its performance.
