Tropicana Evansville’s performance was essentially flat last month, with both its admissions numbers and gaming revenue changing little from the same period last year.
Tropicana saw 88,526 visitors in April, which was up less than 1 percent as compared to April 2013. The casino’s revenue from table games and electronic gaming totaled $1.5 million, down 1 percent from the same period last year.
The numbers come from the Indiana Gaming Commission’s April revenue report, which was released this week. The report details how many people visited each of the state’s casinos, how much the facilities earned from gaming and how much they paid in customer winnings and taxes.
Tropicana paid $3.1 million in admissions and wagering taxes last month, down 1 percent from April 2013.
Even though Tropicana’s performance was anemic, the facility still managed to outperform its major casino competitors, as well as Indiana’s casino industry as a whole.
Tropicana’s main casino competitors are the French Lick Casino in Southern Indiana and the Harrah’s casino in Metropolis, Ill.
French Lick saw its admissions decline 14 percent last month, to 62,971. Its gaming revenue dropped 12 percent, to $5.8 million.
Harrah’s Metropolis saw its admissions drop 16 percent, to 49,506. Its gaming revenue dropped 12 percent, to $6.5 million.
Taken as a group, Indiana’s casinos saw 1.5 million visitors in April, down 10 percent as compared to a year earlier. The casinos brought in a combined $194.1 million in gaming revenue, down 9 percent year over year. These facilities paid a combined $64.8 million in admissions and wagering taxes last month, down 10 percent from a year earlier.
