New web site databases
The state has posted new Web databases that are searchable by address, county, name and property class.
Homeowners who believe their property is overassessed could use the database to view the tax values assigned to similar homes in their neighborhood. If the number looks out of whack, that information could be used to file an appeal with the township assessor.
New state databases allow you to view property tax assessment data in your neighborhood and across the state. You also can find out how much homes and other properties have sold for in recent years. All you need to search is an address or the property owner's last name. For best results, omit the road type (Avenue, Boulevard, etc,) when searching by address.

INDIANAPOLIS | Barring individual homeowner appeals, the assessed property values received by Lake County residents within the past few weeks are locked in.
State officials on Thursday cleared the property tax assessment work of nine more counties, including Lake, meaning the county is no longer the subject of a possible reassessment.
"Assessments in these counties were done in accordance with state guidelines," said Cheryl Musgrave, commissioner of the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance.
A total of 68 counties now have been cleared, including Porter. Meanwhile, as many as 21 counties could have to redo assessment work.
Counties targeted for reassessment typically failed to update the tax values of at least 60 percent of commercial or industrial properties, Musgrave said. The state has officially ordered reassessments in four of the 21 counties, including Marion.
Even with the reassessment hurdle cleared, it still probably will be November or December before region homeowners receive their tax bills. The Department of Local Government Finance still is reviewing Lake and Porter County tax rates. And, once the state is finished, local officials will need several weeks to calculate, print and mail bills.
