MUNCIE — Ball State University’s board of trustees on Thursday approved a $339 million general fund budgetfor 2013-14 that includes a 3 percent increase in funding for salaries and wages for faculty and professional staff.
The trustees also approved a 2 percent increase in tuition.
President Jo Ann Gora last year acknowledged “discontent among faculty about the competitiveness of your salaries” and promised to take steps to address it.
Associate professor David Pearson, chairman of the University Senate, said after Thursday’s meeting that he was happy with the extra compensation. “Three percent is more than some of my counterparts are getting across the country,” he told The Star Press.
