Purdue University trustees on Friday approved the two-year tuition freeze for the West Lafayette campus that has been making headlines since President Mitch Daniels announced it in March, along with other items aimed at making Purdue leaner.

Trustees agreed with Daniels’ plan to shave 5 percent off the cost of a common meal plan on the West Lafayette campus and changes to certain other fees, such as an $82 increase to the fitness and wellness fee and a $514 decrease to one paid by co-op students.

The retirement and savings plan for hourly employees, along with the one for Daniels himself, are also set to change in order to save money.
