Investors, business advocates and residents in northeast Indiana continue to fight through an economy that seems bent on retreating.
In the third quarter of 2007 – the period before the recession officially began – the housing industry already was struggling, primarily because of the subprime mortgage crisis. That year saw home construction rates in Allen County plummet 24 percent compared with the previous year. Existing home sales dropped 12 percent.
