Bill to abolish commissioners wins early nod in Senate committee

INDIANAPOLIS - County commissioners would be no more under legislation passed narrowly by the Senate Local Government and Elections Committee on Wednesday.

Instead, the three-member board would be replaced with a single elected chief executive officer starting in 2011.
