Metal Technologies Auburn LLC, which makes iron castings, said Wednesday it will spend $1.5 million to add manufacturing capabilities at its plant in Auburn.

The company, a division of Metal Technologies Inc. in Auburn, said it also expects to add 32 new permanent jobs and 20 temporary positions by the end of the year. The plant makes gray iron castings for the construction, automotive and appliance industries.

Metal Technologies Auburn presently employs about 140 at its manufacturing facility; the parent company employs 70 at its corporate headquarters.

"This investment will position Metal Technologies Auburn to be a very flexible supplier, able to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers," Matthew Fetter, president of Metal Technologies Inc., said in a statement released through the Indiana Economic Development Corp.

"MTA has a very productive workforce and the business environment in Indiana allows it to be one of the lowest cost producers in our industry, which is why we are confident in making this investment during challenging times for manufacturing."

The IEDC said it has offered the company $325,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $85,000 in training grants based MTA's job creation plans. According to the statement, the city of Auburn will consider a property-tax abatement.
