Corydon automotive stamping plant cuts 140 workers because of GM shutdown

Icon Metal Forming LLC in Corydon notified the Indiana Department of Workforce Development yesterday that it is cutting 140 jobs at its automotive stamping plant.

Icon, a division of Ontario-based Martinrea International, blamed the cuts on the temporary shutdown of General Motors Corp.

The cuts began May 6 and will be completed by May 20, the company said. About 80 of the workers are union members.

Icon located to Corydon in southern Indiana in February 2005 and is Harrison County's largest automotive supplier.

The company employed 360 people in 2006, when it announced a five-year, $6.1 million expansion that Icon hoped would add up to 125 jobs.
