Amtrak and Indiana Department of Transportation representatives put their cards on the table this morning at a meeting hosted by Greater Lafayette Commerce.
Approximately 200 people are attending today’s summit at Faith Community Center in Lafayette.
At stake is losing the four-day-a-week Hoosier State line that runs from Indianapolis to Chicago with stops in Lafayette, Crawfordsville, Rensselaer and Dyer. Coupled with the three time per week Cardinal passenger route, the two lines provide daily service through the corridor.
Effective Oct. 1, federal funding will cease for passenger rail routes shorter than 750 miles, and that includes the 196 mile Hoosier State.
