Across Indiana, cities and towns like Marion grew and prospered due to oil and natural gas that was discovered in the state more than 100 years ago.
As developments like the Honda plant coming to Greensburg and the Nestle facility in Madison County begin construction, many are encountering evidence of abandoned wells from the Trenton oil and gas field that fueled that gas boom era. But a proposed dairy farm near Van Buren is the first time state officials have dealt with the issue in large-scale animal farms.
