Small business owners want less regulation and are also concerned with finding people who will fill vacant jobs and show up for work, said state Sen. Carlin Yoder.
That was the common message heard by the Indiana General Assembly’s Small Business Caucus at town hall meetings in South Bend and Elkhart on Wednesday.
South Bend’s morning meeting at Ivy Tech Community College had a much larger crowd than the handful of people who showed up in Elkhart at the downtown library at noon.
But the thoughts shared were similar.
The meetings were part of 22 town hall gatherings designed to get feedback from small businesses across the state.
“The question keeps coming up continually,” Yoder, an Elkhart County Republican, said. “In Elkhart County especially, there’s 8.5 percent unemployment and yet employers can’t find people to work.
