SOUTH BEND  - Good news in the economy usually means bad news for college enrollment.

As the job market expands, fewer people go back to college for degrees or certificates to enhance their employment skills.

And that trend is holding true in Ivy Tech Community College’s north central region, where enrollment is down 12 percent from a year ago. That’s based on the official Sept. 4 fall enrollment count at the South Bend, Elkhart County and Warsaw campuses.

Statewide, Ivy Tech enrollment has decreased 4 percent from a year ago.
