Opponents of the Interstate 69 project filed a lawsuit Monday in federal court, claiming violations of federal laws and asking the court to halt construction of the highway.

The complaint also asks the court to prevent state and federal highway officials from spending any more money on design or construction.

Landowners affected by the I-69 project, Citizens for Appropriate Rural Roads and the I-69 Accountability Project filed the suit in the U.S. District Court for Southern Indiana about a week after federal highway officials signed off on the Final Environmental Impact Statement for Section 4 of I-69.
