SOUTH BEND - If free federal money is available to help cities, local mayors are prepared to get their piece of the pie.

President-elect Barack Obama is considering a multi-billion dollar economic stimulus package that could include federal funding to improve public infrastructure.

The United States Conference of Mayors has submitted a list of projects from 427 cities that would create jobs, improve infrastructure and provide long-term economic development. The "ready-to-go" projects can be started quickly if federal funding is made available.

Mishawaka and Plymouth were among the cities that submitted projects and South Bend also has created a list
