With 14 teachers retiring, one taking a one-year leave, a resignation and another on a one-year contract, less teachers will find themselves without jobs when the 2010-11 school year begins for the Jennings County School Corporation (JCSC).

However, there will still be six teachers who will be losing their jobs in layoffs at the end of this school year due to a $1.5 million shortfall the local school district will be receiving from state funding.

"There will be a few teachers we will RIF (Reductions in Force)," explained Dr. Michael Bushong, superintendent of JCSC. "But, it is not like we had predicted it would be because we have had several retirements."

The exact date when the six teachers facing job losses will be notified has not been determined. Bushong plans to meet with the teachers prior to bringing the the proposed RIF to the school board for approval.
