The Wabash City Council on Monday, June 25, passed an ordinance regulating CFOs and CAFOs within the city's zoning jurisdiction.

CFOs are Confined Feeding Operations; CAFOs are Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations.

The ordinance, which becomes law immediately, requires anyone wanting to locate a CFO or CAFO with the city's 2-mile zoning jurisdiction outside the city limits to request a special exception.

The vote was 6-0 in favor of the measure.

Earlier this month, the Council asked the Wabash Plan Commission to review the ordinance and report back. The planners gave it a favorable recommendation.

The ordinance mirrors the one passed by Wabash County officials earlier this year.

City Attorney Doug Lehman reported that under the Indiana zoninng code the ordinance required only one reading by the Council.
