East Allen County Schools officials say they have sent layoff notices to 28 teachers but hope to bring most of them back by the fall.

After an East Allen board meeting Tuesday, Chief Financial Officer Kirby Stahly said the district will need fewer teachers after its switches from a trimester to a semester system. He said the district’s decreasing enrollment, which results in decreasing state funds, is another reason for the layoff notices.
