The Frankfort School Board voted Tuesday to reduce the district’s staff by eight persons.

Economic stimulus money awarded to Frankfort schools has run out, said Superintendent Dr. Les Bivens, and eight positions are to be cut from district staff.

“The economic stimulus money, the first amount that was given to the school corporation, has expired,” said Superintendent Les Bivens. “This occurred before I came here.”

Originally, five teachers were to be laid off, but as it stands now, four would be released.

“We are trying every way we can to fund it a different way,” Bivens said.

The four certified positions that will be reduced are based on seniority “as determined by the master contract,” Bivens said.

Four non-certified positions are also being terminated.
